What is the aim of a leash?

To begin with, the objective of a leash isn’t to hold an animal in check. Furthermore, last time I checked horses failed to where leashes, and it’s these enormous truths of the leash and its appropriate roll in the lives of this owner/dog group that prompted me to take some time to write this report.

The leash is a superb invention because of its simplicity and its objective. Without its own invention, we would not be, together with our loyal four-legged companions able to benefit from strolls on pleasant summer days, or brisk morning walks, yet the inability and ignorance of the frequent dog owner in regards to utilizing the leash makes me wonder why they don’t come with directions on how best to use them.

As I mentioned above, the leash was devised to attach you, the proprietor to your puppy. The objective of the leash isn’t suitable for the owner to be the anchor behind the bull, which 9 times out of ten is the true scenario.

The objective of the leash when walking with your dog is to enable you the owner to have continuous control over your dog, it’s not to sentence your puppy to a dull dull walk!

I understand that typically it’s merely a case of the public simply not knowing any better; however, taking the time to discover the right way to use the most frequent dog product ever produced would help to know conclusion, the connection, and general ambiance between master and dog.

Common Mistake

Letting your puppy pull you around, is just teaching him/her that using a educated leash is cool and you don’t mind being jerked from 1 place to another. The biggest fault with the educated leash scenario, is the owner will pull back when the dog pulls, thus encouraging the puppy to pull thus initiating a tug of war which the dog usually wins.

The dog needs to understand that you’re responsible for the situation and they’re not. By keeping a slack leash when walking with your dog, you’re giving yourself that extra foot of leash, in addition to an extra second to respond to a dog’s incessant forwards lunges.

Pulling dog

First of all you the owner have to know the appropriate way to manage your dog’s leash. Always be certain that your leash arm isn’t straight but bent. By doing this, You’re not placing stress on your arm, and You’re giving yourself an arm length of leash to use when responding to undesirable actions from your dog:

This in itself, could be sufficient to discourage the behavior.

The third solution is to straighten your arm when walking and turning in the opposite direction. Using this method you’re giving a loose leash, to a hard correction, that is continuing and only stops when the dog complies with you.

The idea behind this strategy is to make an attempt to communicate to the dog that this sort of behaviour is unacceptable and you the owner won’t tolerate it. You the owner need your dog to make the association between lunging forward, and the consequent distress that accompanies this act. If appropriate leash technique is used properly and consistently, an individual can put a stop to incessant pulling of any sort whether it be pulling forward, or pulling sideways. In doing so you are only strengthening the dog’s understanding that good behaviour results in good results. By relaying the message to your dog that undesirable activity will result in discomfort, whilst compliance will result in a fantastic result, walking your dog will soon become a joy not a chore.
